What Cost Control Isn’t
What is cost control in a cultural project? Cost control is about controlling costs, up or down, in order to achieve your goal.
That’s what it is.
Here’s what it isn’t:
Cost control isn’t … trying to make all the elements in a project equally inexpensive.
It isn’t … trying to get as many things made as possible, for as little as possible.
It isn’t … trying to get as much bang as you can for your buck with every single thing.
It isn’t … applying the same standards for everything.
It isn’t … austerity.
It isn’t … having your project look like you didn’t spend anything.
It isn’t … like being a retiree on a fixed income, where “everything as cheap as possible” is a mantra.
Here’s the thing:
Cost control is about controlling costs, up or down, in order to achieve your goal.
That might mean reducing … and it might mean increasing.
Your job is to spend money. Cost control just means spending it well.
Warmly,
Jonathan
