What’s “Program” Mean?

What’s “program” mean?

This will be easy. Let’s ask around the museum:

Developer:
“Programs” are the code we write for computers.

Educator:
No, “programs” are our tours and classes.

Event Manager:
What? “Programs” are what we hand out at our events. Oh, and it’s also what we call our events. Huh.

Architect:
Actually, “Programs” are the room needs for your new buildings.

Project Manager:
Huh? “Programs” are sets of projects we manage. And I should know.

Media Manager:
I’m a little confused here. “Programs” are the recorded shows we make for our audiences to watch. Right?

Here’s the thing:
Sometimes, jargon even separates the experts … from the experts.

Might be time for some, er, deprogramming? On teams with more than one discipline, our specialized terms might not be as universal as we think. A little plain talk might go a long way to keep our projects on track.

Warmly,
Jonathan
